ENEA performs research and promotes innovation aimed at developing sustainable and competitive production systems for the agro-industry sector.

Specific focus is put on all aspects related to the creation of value along the whole the production process through efficient use of resources, better production quality, recovery and recycling of wastes and wastewater, in order to develop high-energy and high- value-added products with a view to meeting the targets of Bio-economy. Innovative approaches and technologies applied to the whole agro-industrial supply chain ensure high-quality, safe and traceable products. Strategic goals are the sustainability and valorization of Made-in-Italy agri- food products through the territorial integration and cooperation with enterprises and institutions, made possible thanks to an approach based on cross-cutting skills and disciplines:

• biotechnology,
• process and product eco-innovation,
• advanced diagnostics,
• product quality, traceability and safety.

All activities are performed by making use of innovative infrastructures, equipment, facilities, technology and service platforms.

ENEA collaborates with agri-food enterprises to develop production and consumption models ever attentive to the principles of sustainability, with the aim of creating a stronger integration between innovation supply and demand, along with solid public-private partnerships, thus ensuring a better production performance and the optimization of funding opportunities offered at regional, national, European and international level.
